Disheartening Fear & Toxic Conversations

How do you approach people??

How do people feel after they walk away from talking with you? Uplifted, empowered, God-focused, rekindled; or deflated, burdened and disheartened? I have found a phrase that people like to say that I have decided I REALLY despise " Sorry, I am Just playing devil's advocate." This phrase is usually said to me when they have a negative and usually unsolicited advice they want to give me on a choice I am making or path I am taking. OK but why does the devil have say in my choices!?!?! I feel called to say to you and myself. If you want to bring something you feel called to talk about to someone, how about asking "How do you feel that decision fits in what God is calling you to do in your life?"

I just had a killer conversation, and not the awesome kind. Right now, I feel disheartened, fearful of the future, mistrusting of what I know God is calling me to. I'm going to give you some advice about "Conversations killers." If you really want to help someone, talk to them about what God is doing in their life which will help them open up and even may lead to a break through.

CONVERSATION KILLERS:

*Giving unsolicited advice is a great way to shut down a conversation.

*Speaking and listening only on Auto-pilot.

*Pressing your agenda (meaning: your perception and how you make the other person feel while your talking to someone.) Such as:

1- I am good at this and you are messing it up.

2- I am more of a victim than you.

3- I have all the answers and I'm just waiting to tell you them.

4-You are just looking for what's wrong with what the person is saying.

5- Your listener already feels you have labeled them.

So, why are those things really that toxic? BECAUSE THEY KEEP us from connecting and with out connection how can we grow together and be supportive of the kingdom?

Build others up and help sharpen them to hit the bullseye that God has placed in their life. Instead use active listening and Christ-centered questions such as:

-What about this situation do you feel might be stopping or hindering you from what God has called you to do?

-What do you think this situation says about who you are in Christ?

-What do you think God's heart is for this situation.

-How is all this being true to your values?

-How do you think God intends you to handle this situation?

God is good and he initiates all of these kinds of conversations as invitations for growth. Bless you dear readers and love those who are being used to cause you to grow in Christ. They are truly a blessing to your faith life.
